As an allergy mom, do you feel the strain of holiday overload? You know the pressure: the sense that every Easter or Passover, Valentine’s or Christmas must be a Pinterest-worthy occasion.
Parenting contributor Megan Lavin relates! She finds the daily load with children with food allergies – from three allergy-friendly meals to safe snacks – is already huge.
Making holidays that much “extra” as well? No thank you! So, in her latest video for the Megan’s Minute video series, she’s got great tips to ease the holiday overload burden. With her approach, Megan aims to simplify, enjoy holidays throughout the year, and fend off allergy mom burnout.
For instance, with Easter coming up, Megan knows the pressure to have the holiday look like a pastel-hued Martha Stewart creation.
“I’d argue that for families that don’t have to deal with food allergies, it’s far easier to go there,” she says. “For instance, I could put together a beautiful spread much quicker if I could have the Costco bakery do most of the heavy lifting. But making a single cake for my family with allergies takes hours. There’s making it, cleaning it up, waiting for it to cool, and then decorating.”
Cutting Through Holiday Overload
In the video, Megan offers advice to ease the holiday overload. Those special occasions with the family should be fun, not stress-filled.
Listen for her top tips on:
• Freeing yourself by avoiding the urge to do it all.
• Learning to pick your spots for when to go all out – and when to dial it back.
• Making an occasion special for your allergic kids in small, memorable ways.
Above all, Megan wants Allergic Living followers to “give yourself grace, take inventory of your time, energy and bandwidth. Build a holiday plan that works for you!”
