Singer Solange Knowles tied the knot on November 16, and while her multiple wedding outfits were the talk of tinsel town, there was one unexpected accessory that had the new bride thanking Benadryl.
“Shout out to Benadryl yo, lol. NOTHING was gonna stop me from having my mother and son dance with Julez,” she wrote on Instagram.
Photos snapped by the paparazzi after the New Orleans reception reveal numerous, large hives covering the singer’s face and neck. According to the tabloid website TMZ, Beyoncé’s younger sister broke out in hives following the reception dinner due to an unknown food allergy.
Knowles suggested on Twitter that the hives occurred after she was dancing with her son and got too hot.
Got em from turning up x100 during our second line. I was hot, wearing a cape & happy as hell:)“@ImLovinMe4me: how did you get hives though??”

The allergic reaction reportedly subsided shortly after.
Knowles may have given a “shout-out to Benadryl,” following her marriage to music video director Alan Ferguson. But we at Allergic Living are calling out to the singer to take the proper precautions.
- Was it a food reaction and if so, what part of their wedding feast caused her to react?
- Was her reaction exercise-induced from all that wedding reception dancing?
- Was it a food-dependent exercise reaction (where exercise can bring on a food reaction)?
At Allergic Living we think Solange needs to get to an allergist for answers – particularly since, if it is a food allergy, Benadryl should not have been the first line of response. If a food allergen is the cause, she will likely need to get an epinephrine auto-injector.
What do you think of the way Solange handled her allergic reaction? [Update: the singer and her husband separated in 2019.]
