Parents Protest Allergy Rules

On March 9, parents of children enrolled at Edgewater Public School near Daytona Beach, Florida, called the media and staged a protest, angry that an allergy-management plan implemented by the school board to keep a 6-year-old peanut-allergic girl safe could take away from their children’s learning time – and that the child should stay home instead.

The events have galvanized the allergic community and underscore the importance of educating those who do not understand the challenges of daily living with a food allergy.
